Bayards Yacht Structures represents team spirit, craftsmanship, passion, pioneering, quality and reliability and we incorporate these values into our daily work. We are proud of the beautiful products that we make. But we are even more proud of the people who make this
possible and give 100% each day to make Bayards a considerable success. The people are what makes Bayards, Bayards. Because at the end of the day, without our dedicated team, Bayards would be a shiny but empty aluminium hull.
Find out how it is to work at Bayard Yacht Structures through their eyes. What the day to day looks like.
Since 2017 I have been a welder at Bayards. Before joining Bayards, I had always worked in the shipbuilding industry, where I mainly welded steel. I am also working in the luxury yacht building industry, and I am primarily welding sections. However, Bayards only works with aluminium, so that aspect of the job was entirely new for me. I enjoyed learning! In the end, it is not very different from steel, except that it is a lot lighter and easier to work with. And another plus: at the end of the day, you don't come home completely black from the steel! What I like best about my job is the precision of the welding. No matter how difficult a position is, it must continuously be adequately welded, and that is precisely what I find the most significant challenge in my work. The atmosphere on the shop floor is always pleasant, and I always enjoy going to work.
About 14 years ago, I applied for a job through an advertisement in the newspaper. At the time, Bayards was looking for welders and sheet metal workers. At that time, I had just finished my training as a welder. I did not hesitate for a moment and applied immediately. I had to make a test weld during the application process. Of course, that was exciting because it was aluminium and I was trained in steel, but it went well, and now I've been working here for a long time. The best thing about my job is that I get the opportunity to weld in all positions. It ranges from fillet welds to packet welds. At the moment, I am mainly working in the luxury yacht building sector. A pleasant working atmosphere and good cooperation are essential to me. In IJsselmonde, the location where I work, that's all right, and that makes the work fun and enjoyable!
I got to know Bayards in 2011 when I did my high school internship there. I was enthusiastic about the company, so I immediately applied for a job after I finished high school. In 2012 I started at Bayards as a BBL student during my All-round Construction Worker education. After completing my training, I joined the company as a Sheet Metal Worker. In the meantime, I have progressed to the position of Planner in the Yacht Building Department. A significant step in my career, something I would not have dared to dream of 5 years ago! As a planner, it is my job to provide production with all the information and materials needed to build yacht construction sections. We also function as the point of contact when problems arise in production. We also have the Engineers and the Project Managers in our department. This keeps the lines between the various disciplines short and makes mutual consultation easy. The atmosphere within the team is excellent. We work hard, but there is also room for a bit of fun. After all, the bow cannot always be bent. The best thing about this job is that it offers a lot of variety. No day is the same as the previous one. There are sometimes hectic days when it is a challenge to bring the work to a good end. But if we succeed, it is all the more satisfying!
